Government assistance

Understanding the Child Care Subsidy

Most eligible families do not pay the full advertised childcare fee. The Australian Government’s Child Care Subsidy, commonly known as CCS, is paid directly to approved childcare services and reduces the amount families are required to pay.

Your family’s CCS entitlement may depend on factors including:

  • your family’s combined income;
  • your child’s age;
  • the type of approved care used;
  • the number of children your family has in approved care;
  • your family’s circumstances and CCS eligibility;
  • the hourly fee charged by the service;
  • the applicable government hourly rate cap.

Because every family’s situation is different, we do not publish estimated out-of-pocket amounts as guaranteed prices. Your actual gap fee can only be determined after Services Australia confirms your CCS entitlement and your child’s booked care is established.

Use official CCS information

Check eligibility and estimate possible support using current Australian Government and ACECQA resources.

Services Australia determines eligibility and subsidy entitlement. Super Stars cannot approve or guarantee a family’s CCS percentage.

A simple starting point

How Your Gap Fee Is Calculated

Your gap fee is the remaining amount payable after the applicable Child Care Subsidy has been applied.

Session feeapplicable CCS payment=estimated family gap fee

CCS is calculated using hourly fees and government hourly rate caps. This means the final amount may not be the same as simply applying a family’s CCS percentage to the full applicable session fee.

Services Australia determines each family’s eligibility and subsidy entitlement. Super Stars cannot approve or guarantee a family’s CCS percentage.

To help avoid unexpected charges, families should:

  • keep their family income estimate current with Services Australia;
  • confirm their child’s enrolment through myGov;
  • ensure relevant eligibility requirements are met;
  • notify Services Australia when family circumstances change;
  • check CCS statements and attendance records regularly.
Compare the whole service

Comparing Childcare Fees in Rockingham

Childcare fees across Cooloongup, Rockingham and surrounding suburbs are not identical. Differences may reflect the care type, educator staffing, children’s age groups, meals and inclusions, educational resources, operating hours, excursions and other service costs.

A lower advertised fee does not always mean a lower total weekly cost if meals, activities or other essential items are charged separately. Families should compare the complete service, not only the advertised daily price.

Questions worth asking

  • What is included?
  • How does the educational program work?
  • Are meals or activities charged separately?
  • How are families kept informed?
  • What does the environment feel like?

Choosing the Right Care for Your Family

Childcare is an important financial decision, but cost is only one part of choosing a service. Consider how educators interact with children, team experience and stability, the learning program, indoor and outdoor environments, meals, communication, safety practices and how comfortable your child feels during a visit.

The best way to understand what your childcare fees provide is to visit the centre, meet our educators and see the learning environment in person.
